Israel Netball League Finals

Ra'anana's home court on Monday 21st June 2010 saw the culmination of another dream come true for Israel Netball - the finals of its very first league season!

3rd/4th Positions

The evening started with Jerusalem Mercaz playing against the Modi'in team in the competition for 3rd and 4th places. Fairly evenly matched as reflected by the relatively low score of 6-5 at the end of the first quarter, Jerusalem Mercaz remained up by 1 goal with a score of 11-10 at the end of the first half. The third quarter score was 20-17 and the match ended with a well-deserved 4-goal win for the Jerusalem ladies at 24-20.

The Modi'in club only commenced its activities less than two years ago while the Jerusalem ladies have been playing for far longer. Modi'in should therefore be very proud of their overall performance and great improvement since the start of the season.

Ra'anana Wins Gold

The evening's excitement continued when the home team Ra'anana (ranked first in the league standings) faced Ma'aleh Adumim in the final. Recently returned from the European Netball Festival in Malta where they chalked up two additional international wins, the national squad members became rivals on court with several playing for each of the opposing teams.

Despite very stiff competition from their opponents, Ra'anana took the lead early on, finishing the first quarter with a score of 15-9 and were still up by 23-14 at the end of the first half. Though each ball was fiercely fought for, the black t-shirted favourites – facilitated by the brilliant shooting of Jodi Carreira, Carol Levin and her daughter Michal - maintained their lead right up to the final whistle when the scoreboard showed 41-26.

Watched by dozens of spectators the home team proudly accepted their gold medals from the League Coordinator Tanya Weil who, as Goalkeeper on the Ma'aleh Adumim team, had done her utmost to prevent Ra'anana from scoring just a few short minutes before.

Family within the Netball family

Hearty congratulations to the three medal recipients of the Komar netball family: gold to Chani (Ra'anana), silver to Racheli (Ma'aleh Adumim) and bronze to Nomi (Jerusalem Mercaz).

Contenders to be watched next season…

Mention should also be made of the newly-formed Tel Aviv club who were strong contenders for the 3rd/4th places. The Tel Aviv players were at a serious disadvantage by not having a proper netball court to practice on throughout the year, yet were able to put on a very good showing at all of their league matches this season.
