When the call went out for participants in Israel Netball's annual fundraising event, no-one quite expected the evening to be the success it was!
Israel Netball receives no funding from governmental or other sources. In order to continue developing netball in Israel, the players try to find original ways of bringing in money for various purposes. Not only is Israel Netball sending their national squad to Malta in June 2010 to proudly represent Israel in the European Netball Festival, but with the recent increase in the number of netball clubs and the commencement of the league, more equipment, more court time and more resources are badly needed.
This year Israel Netball's
fundraising team decided to hold a Skip-a-thon. Each participant was
asked to find as many sponsors as possible who would pay a minimum of NIS 10 for a total of 20 minutes skipping.
In the early evening of Wednesday 14th April dozens of skippers of all ages (6 to 60+), including juniors and seniors from the various clubs, and their supporters gathered on the outside court in Ra'anana.
All those
wearing black T-shirts, skip now!
All those born after 1990, skip now!
All those who can skip backwards, skip now!
All those who are married, skip now!
Those were just a few of the skipper combinations who were asked to show off their skipping skills. Intricate skipping routines were also demonstrated by youngsters and oldsters alike!
During the evening netballs were awarded to the juniors who had succeeded in collecting NIS 250 in sponsorship, and lucky winners went away with prizes that had been especially donated for the event by Israel Netball friends and supporters.
There is no doubt that a fun time was had by all, a good sum of money was raised and, most importantly, both the juniors and the seniors had the opportunity of playing some great netball to finish off the successful evening!
